starting problems

hi , ive got a 8v mk3 golf gti, yesterday i went to go to work and when i was trying to start the car it was just turning over, i kept trying and eventually it started but was very groggy , once it eventually got going it was fine, i drove it for a bit, turned it off and tried to start it and it fired up straight away , no problems, i went to work, and at the end of the day i had same problem, it seems like everytime the car is sat for a few hrs, it struggles to fire up straight away

50% of the people on here wouldnt even respond to this because they think this is too far beneath them..........
but my best advise is damm good FULL service,if you havent done so already,this will eliminate majority of your problem one would think..
then go from there!

coilpack might be on way out. is the oil can on ya dash flashing when trying to start it as this is happening to a lot at the mo, can be a sencer or a gd oil change an use thick oil think its 20/50 plus change plug an just give the car a gd going over to see if any think is lose etc.

The point of this forum is that we all help each other out. Not knock people because their problem is not important enough to deserve our attention.

Pulse - I can't find it to link it now, but there has been a thread in the last few days where the poster had a similar problem. It was the ECU temp sender/sensor. It wasn't working so the ECU didn't change the mixture for cold starts. He changed that and the problem was solved.

Damn unlucky man unless you knew it was like that before you got it.

your best bet is to take it n to a garage theres a few good reasons why it could be doing this. could be starter motor even the battery to spark plug or coilpack.

cheers guys.... im gonna give the car a good going over tomorrow.... its long overdue some attention, last few weeks when i go round a corner too quick the oil light flashes and a beeping noise comes from the dash somewhere, it happens so quick and stops i never know where its coming from.. lol

This same problem was happening to me not long ago. She would struggle to fire up when cold, like you would turn the key and it would make a funny noise, and you just had to keep trying until it fired up, but once warmed up she would no bother. Turned out it was the starter motor. Just replaced it straight away and it cured the problem. Now as stated above it could be another problem, but that's my best bet.

Might be an idea to get the engine coolant temp sensor checked out if it's sensing a really cold temperature it will chuck far to much fuel to start or vice versa once warm there happy as larry just a thought hope u get it sorted any one with the old vw diagnostic machine can help u out

I had the same problem at the start of the week - Get it plugged into VagCom and see if you have any error codes

A good service will help, change the oil and spark plugs but also clean the dizzy cap and rotor arm of any crap - if needs be replace them as they are fairly cheap from Halfrauds

I found that the bosch multi sparks were part of my issue so have changed back to a single contact spark plug

While you are doing the service might be a good point to replace the thermostat and all of the coolant

Your oil light flashes !!!! Not good have u checked ur oil level ?
