Warrenty/ rust/ vw goodwill
« on: 14 June 2012, 19:49 »
So browsing through the service book of my 02 plate mk4 I noticed it had a 12 yr corrosion warranty.
Now I have some really bad rust on 1 front wing and the other is starting to come through so I contacted my local vw dealer who told me to come in for the body shop manager to have a look. He did, took some pic and paint reading and sent it off to vw. I got a call last week saying the paint wasnt covered under the warranty but as a goodwill gesture vw would pay for 2 new wings fitted painted etc on a 70/30 split. What that means to me is around 230 for all the work.
Anyone had an experience of this?
Should it be covered under the 12yr warranty?
I'm kind of happy as I was getting it done anyway so now I get it repaired from vw dealer at a good price. I just wondered if anyone else has any experience of this sort of thing?

Cheers

Glad i've seen this. I have some rust on the inner door seal (roof). The rubber strip has perished and there is some surface rust where the chassis meets the windscreen. I'm going to push for warranty repair as this shouldn't happen.
Has anybody else experienced this?

Quite a common outcome I think.
At least they did not give a blank refusal, which they sometimes do.
I guess that if you are paying a bit, you have more of a comeback if the work is not fully up to scratch?

if its been painted before and there still giving you anything towards it your lucky..  happends with any make or model of car. not painted proper and it will rust., also mk4s tend to rust becuase the wheel arche covers hold lots of crap and mud which kills the wings

The dealer are within their right to refuse cover if any prior work has been done on the affected area, otherwise they will accept the job - usually splitting the costs with you, you are also entitled to refuse to take the car should you not be content with the quality and finish of the work, in which case the work will be done again until your satisfied.
