Removing light swirl marks
« on: 12 June 2012, 20:13 »
Hi all, I'm a new member to the site and hopefully without sounding cheeky can anyone advise the best way of removing light swirl marks on a solid black Golf? Do I need a professional with a machine polisher or can it be achieved by hand using G3 etc?

Any advise would be great fully received and appreciated.

Cheers

Scratch X is pretty good tbf, and I've used it by hand to reasonable standard. You will never get the level of finish you would with a machine polish though. If its just swirls, a single pass will probably suffice so it may be worth asking for a quote from a local detailer. If not, buy yourself a machine and give it a go yourself!

You'll need it machined to get the swirls out, hand polishing will only get you to a certain point with the finish but won't give you a perfect swirl free finish only a machine can do that.

Are you referring to G3 trade compound or the G3 scratch remover liquid in the black bottles?

The stuff I have isn't the trade stuff just stuff off the shelf, I have just taken loan of a friends variable speed Silverline polisher so will give that a go over the weekend, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yes mate it is, I'm just in the process of trying to find a set of pads for it.

3m yellow and a 3m blue will be fine,
If its just swirls you are tackling then the renovator on the 3m yellow should the trick just take it slow and keep your speed low on the machine.
