emissions question
« on: 12 June 2012, 19:40 »
hi ppl, just wondering as my car failed its mot on emissions. should be 0.3% but was 0.63%. a friend who owns a passat said his failed when the mot station tested his emissions at the start but passed when it was retried at the end. would it drop signigicantly for me to pass if i took the car for a rag before it was tested or am i just dreaming. cant get the car looked at in a garage until the weekend but was wondering if it was a waste of time. car is a v reg 2.slow 105k, if it helps. thanks in advance.

I have never failed a mot on emissions but ive been told that the car gives out less emissions when its hotter so in theory taking the car there as hot as possible would be better i normally start the car leave it run for 10 mins then drive flat out in first second and third to the mot station (only 2 miles away) and then get them to do the emissions first

Us oldies call it the Italian Tune Up.

Take it out for a damn good thrash for 20 minutes or so. This works by burning carbon off the valves, combustion chamber and cat.

Obviously you must be confident that the cambelt, oil etc are all up for a good ragging.
