Has my turbo died?
« on: 11 June 2012, 22:08 »
Guys,

So today I went out after the football to the local shopping centre, only a few miles up the road on the motorway.  On the way back I noticed that when I applied gas and the turbo should kick in instead the car would shudder as if losing power and I wouldn't accelerate.

I managed to limp home by which time I had found out that when trying to accelerate instead of the turbo kicking in all I get is a sucking sound.  Like air is being sucked in.  At first I thought the climate control was coming on!

There were no bangs leading up to this and the car didn't cut out at any stage.

Has my turbo gone or could it be something else?

Cheers,
Ross

Check all the boost hoses to see if they are loose, damaged or have come off.

Im going to guess and say it the OS inter cooler pipe come off

Ok well I hope so!  I will have to have a look tomorrow now.  Will it be quite obvious that something has come loose/off?

Always a safe bet, either that or the plethora of pipes where the N249 and N112 are, only because both were shot on mine
Nick at Carbon found them both
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

Ok so it could be disconnected or damaged pipes.  Can anyone give me some advice on where to look for the specific ones?  I've had a quick look under the bonnet today but nothing stood out.

Cheers.
