Hi, can anyone tell me if there should be the green coloured light behind the heater controls
 when dash lights are illuminated?

Yes.

Yes, if you pull one heater knob off you will see a small strip of clear green tinted plastic, this leads down inside to a bulb. Possible to bulb has blown

You can replace it but its a push fit one, not the same as the 'dials' bulbs.

great cheers, thought it looked like there should be but didnt want to take anything apart before i knew for sure

Mines out too, just haven't bothered changing it yet.

Just be careful when you do take it apart, there is a clear plastic reflector thing behind there that spreads the light out and it seems to be made of fairy dust or something, you only have to breathe on it to break it.
