Digifant Idling
« on: 12 June 2005, 22:28 »
Had the tappets done the other day, but now i have a slight idling problem.
Sometimes the revs drop real low, then bounce up again to say 2k then drop down again, hunting up and down.
Is this likely to be the ISV needing a clean or something else chaps?

deffo an air leak

the oil breather gromet that seals the breather to the rocker cover could be missing/split. look for any dody vacum hoses and replace if needed

clean out the air filter, isv, inlet butterfly's and idle screw while your at it.

to be honest, there is a chance when the tappets werte done the cam has not been timed up properly... this would cause it, and the belt and sprocket have to come off to take camshft out so my money would be timing... the isv wouldnt go down hill just like that

Thanks guys, I will inspect / clean as soon as I can, guess the timing could be slightly out, thing is car runs ok, pulls well etc apart from the idling prob which can usually be settled by blipping the throttle.

I watched him mark up the timing, and reassemble, timing marking all looked ok...hmm...

Sounds to me like the idle switch either isn't working or isn't being pressed when the throttle closes.  Check you hear a distinct click from the throttle body when the throttle is closed.
The switch itself is located under the throttle body, and the only way to get to it is to remove the upper airbox & intake boot.  Because the mounting bolts are almost impossible to get to, I simply tapped the bracket with a hammer to move it in slightly.  Now my idle switch clicks and no more hunting idle

While you have the intake boot clean out the throttle body till its spotless :)
