I wouldn't be so sure. In my allotment of car mags (CAR, TopGear) there were more than a few sentiments expressed that diesel isn't the all-conquering alternative to petrol. In fact TopGear even recommended a few petrol variants over the diesel alternatives because, given the price difference between the two fuels, diesel isn't actually more cost-effective for some mileages.

Agreed. I've been in a diesel for the last 14 years but now I'm thinking of changing my car and I'm struggling to see the major economy benefits that I used to get with the diesel now that my mileage has dropped from 30k to 12k per year. 

Obviously some petrol engines will still give you teen mpg whereas mine never goes below 35 but I'm not ruling out petrol this time....

I have just traded in my mapped sirocco for an ed 35 and can assure you it's like chalk and chesse, yes the map improved the 170 to 210 but nothing bets a petrol  :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

tis true.... and you only live once as we all know  :cool:
