wow thats a long test drive, might burn all his petrol!

Well if I was buying that car I would tell him that I have some concerns about being mapped and I need to test drive the car out properly. It just might be a an excellent example of how a GTI should be, but having read a few threads on here about some of the R's and the state there in??? Check out its warranty and the service book too!

just cos its been mapped doesn't mean its thrashed. if it drives good on the test drive, has no daft noises/smoke etc etc I'm sure it will be fine

never seen rain, never seen road salt, 6 coats of wax on it, chassis cleaned every couple of weeks, never left in car parks, never left outside over night or through the day for that matter, engine always warmed up and warmed down properly but cos its been mapped it means its had a hooligan owner?....

Would you buy off ebay ? Or maybe its because I only do brand new cars, I haven't bought a second hand car for over 10yrs now, I certainly wouldn't throw my hard earned cash at a mapped car IMHO just stay clear of mapped cars. Just maybe you need to get out a bit in your GTI if your carrying out the above

Thrashing and driving fast aren't the same you know. My ED35 that's on order will never be thrashed whilst I own it, but that's not to say I'm going to drive it like a gran everyday, not take it up to the redline and use the performance on offer. Thrashed is treating something without care or respect, using in a damaging way.

Back to the topic, if you want to see if it's been 'thrashed', check the discs and tyres. It should be part way through its second set of tyres at 18k miles, and the discs shouldn't be burnt blue. If they are, or it's had more tyres, it's had a hard life, if not, it's been looked after by someone who knows how to drive properly
