Took mine off to clean the inside and nearly gave myself a hernia you're not wrong they are bloody heavy!

Suspension mods look good, has it made the ride crashy at low speeds?

No I can definately say there's is no worse than standard. It's just as firm but not as crashy as standard and not as bouncy at the rear


The main reason I we t for this kit was for real world performance and comfort. It is very good so far I'm well pleased

I take it by changing the suspension this would negate the ACC?  If I was to get a decent set up like this would there be any coding I would need to sort out or would I just have to leave the button alone?

I must say I think going from the Clio 197 with cup springs I think the Golf is like driving on a cloud especially when stuck in comfort mode.

I came from a clip 197 also and Im the same. I feel the GTI is extremely vague in comparison.

Off you have ACC you can still fit suspension kits. Some kits are specific for ACC cars so I guess they must come with a plug for the worse going to the shocks or something


I'm waiting for my whiteline anti roll bar to arrive to hopefully sharpen the GTI up a bit more. I can't help this niggling feeling I should have bought the megane instead.



You will be pleased with the difference the suspension kit makes though if you fit it

Im sure you would be disappointed with the megane as the build quality is no where near the level of the golf.  Power is immense but again the ride is so hard and race tuned that it doesnt make for an all round epic car.

Could you change the anti roll bars and buy things like strut braces to try and tighten the whole ride up or would it just feel the same?

ride quality isn't really affected by anti roll bars too much.

im 100% happy with the cars ride and comfort with the bilsteins. they are on a different planet compared to the crashy OEM suspension. i can't recommend them enough.

the standard sway bars are very soft - the rear feels especially soft and just gets dragged round by the front. its not very mobile at the rear. the golf does lean a hell of lot, even with better suspension so stiffer bars should sharpen things up nicely i hope. i went for 3 way adjustable type so i can try and suit it to what I'm after better.

I find that ACC in 'Sport' makes the rear come alive...you can really make it move. Add to this the more aggressive steering and it really livens up the chassis. But, it makes the ride a shade too firm on all but the smoothest roads.

I can see how a decent rear ARB would give the same effect, but without the ride harshness.

I think for my set-up, a bigger rear ARB, ACC in 'Normal' and some means of having the 'Sport' steering setting in 'normal' would be ideal.

fitted the whiteline rear anti roll bar today. a very well made kit including lateral lock system and poly bushes etc

I've set it on soft which is around 60% stiffer than standard.


very easy to fit - put it on ramps (so wheels were weighted) and it was very straight forward. end links look more suited length for medium position but i think medium will be too sharp.


initial impressions are good. the car is just as compliant and comfortable to drive but has much less initial understeer.


i had a mess around on a few wet roundabouts to try it out and the tail is a lot more playful but in no way snappy so I'm very pleased. my clio 182 back end was pretty knife edge especially in the wet but this is not where near that sharp so the car has kept its grown up character just made slightly more interactive.

I've gone for just the rear for now. will fit a front one if i ever drop the subframe in the future. its not a job i fancy doing on the driveway to be honest and I've just had my wheel alignment done so in no hurry to be honest..


so far I've found rear only on soft (23mm equivalent) is not a drastic change and feels just fine with the OEM front.

the standard rear is equivalent to 20.45mm solid bar.
