alright people, i've recently bought a mk3 gti 8v coming from a seat cordoba cupra, so it's quite alot slower than that. i was wondering would it be worth turbo'n an 8v? n what sort of work/ costs will i be looking at. looked on ebay and the turbo kits are around 600 quid, but what else would need to be done. also what sort of power would i expect after doing it? it says on the turbo kit 100- 150 + bhp. wondered if this was true. or do i just buy a vr6 and turbo/supercharge that. all i know is i need more power.

There's a sticky with parts needed for a 1.8 20v turbo conversion. Use a k04 and you will get 260bhp

Tweed, will ko4 just bolt onto an earlyier 20vt lump like an AGU? I need a turbo for mine, just wondering the hasstle of putting a ko4 instead of looking for a standard ko3.

The manifold will fit the head, so you can bolt up the turbo/manifold...then you will need the bigger injectors, bigger MAF etc...plus the ECU custom mapping to make it all work.
And you still wouldn't have the stronger bottom end of the K04 engines.

In a word forget it, ebay turbo kits tend not to fit uk spec cars, you will not see big gains.

Fit a 1.8t lump or sell it and buy something quicker.

my friend built one on sunday,
i went along an made tea an helped out here an there no point getting in the way of the pro's
he is finishing up the pipework today, should be back on the road by the weekend.
garry the t32 snail, tial 50mm external wastegate, remapped ecu, front mount, spacer gasket, uprated head bolts its all pretty monge to be honest, it has cost a fair old whack but worth it when the predicted figures come home

I didnt dare ask but my knowledge of what the parts roughly cost i would be surprised if there was any change from around 3 - 3.5 grand i could also be a fair way off tho, no internal modifications required, although will be running digital in car boost controller with preset boost pressures for each gear & on the move adjustment, had new chains & guides fitted also along with a 5mm spacer to give the lower compression ratio.
