What could that clunking noise be??

ok as many of you know i picked up a second hand set of coilover! that was my first mistake lol (should of went new)
but today it sounds like something is loose and making a clunking noise from the passenger side front wheel, almost like my tracking rod is broke or cv joint, but a few things make me think its the CV joint as it only happends on uneven roads (all of them then) but not while turning as you would expect on a CV joint.

now i'v never had coilovers before and i hear people say the top mounts can go so i'm wondering if it could be this and what are they main symptoms when top mounts go. i had my tracking done two days ago and really don't want to buy new coilovers just yet to then get my tracking done again.

main concern is what ever it maybe could it be dangerous and should i be in a rush to replace what ever it may be? THANKS!!!

sounds like top mounts, i had the same problem. so changed them. few months later it started again, just accept it as part of having a lowered car

Could be a link snapped and stabbing through your cv gaiter
Stick it up in the air and check your suspension

so you drive round like this ok then? i was planning on getting new coilovers maybe november as they make a creaking noise when i turn left. im trying to save up for some wheels atm but it seems other things keep popping up :-(

yh its only when driving really slow, ive got new top mounts and resently had an mot and went thru fine, also just adjusted the camber and ride hight and checked the sus over and all is fine. you should check all yours over tho as it might not be the same problem

Mine seems to clunk a bit on one side first thing in the morning, fine for the rest of the day and its got new top mounts and everything else seems ok.

I stuck an old pair of coilies on the front of mine last year and it was clunking too. Pulled them off, and the drivers side strut had had it.  Did the clunking only appear after you changed the suspension?  Does it knock or clunk if you bounce test them (push up and down on each wing).

yeah since the new suspension was put on. ill try some compressors but some people say u don't need them for coilovers don't fancy finding out the hard way lol. but ill see how it goes as iv just paid 70 for the tracking. don't wanna mess it all up again.

no you dont need them for coils, take them off and then wind all the preload off and the springs will do loose
