A few Problems.. A friendly hand needed....
« on: 11 June 2005, 08:10 »
Hi Guys

Got a few problems with my golf I need help with...

1. Indicators have stopped working, hazards work, but nothing from the stalk, do you think the stalk could be knackered, is this common?
2. Oil light flashed on and off, yet car temperature doesnt seem to change, never over heats even when driven hard, should i be worried?
3. Central locking has stopped working, pump or something gone?
4. Fanbelt is squealing loads, will this being loose make the power steering hard work?

Thanks for the help and advice in advance...

Cheers

Dave

Check ur fuses n tighten up your fan belt? might be an easy cheap fix for a change lol

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

When my central locking stopped, it was just the hose came off the compressor in the boot. If you can hear a compressor running from outside when you turn the driver door lock its probably that.

Also check the wire that runs to the pumpy thing on the drivers door.

Mine stopped working and it was because the wire had snapped between the car and the door (theres a rubber boot thing you can see between the shell and the door if you look towards the hinges with the door open)

Tighten your PAS belt, easy job.

Check Oil level

Take off steering wheel and clean/check the contacts on the stalk.

Thanks guys.. This was for a car I was buying wanted to make sure it wasnt going to be anything serious...

Here goes with there fixes...

Indicators working fine, it was a fuse! Fuse changed indicators work.. Yippee!

Oil light.. Flushed engine, changed oil, light still on, had a read on the forum and it sounds like it could be the Oil pressure sensors are faulty, shall change after MOT which is at 2.30 on tuesday (hopefully it will pass)

Still having problems with Central locking, I disconnected battery and it seemed to reset the alarm, door locks now work fine. boot wasnt connected so connected it and it caused probs. no disconnected again. I dont think the system i have runs on a main air vacum, its almost like each lock has its own pump.. Would this be right. might be an addition to the clifford alarm??

Havent sorted the squeeky fan belt yet.. waitin for MOT to see what else needs doing if it fails. Need to buy a new Fanbelt and another belt which i believe runs the Water pump and PAS pump. the belts look old and warn.

Any advice would be cool..
Cheers

for once not far wrong!!! change your belts because if they go it takes all the nice little expensive rubber pipes (£105) for a trip to death as well!!
