air filter on a 1.6

so i have a top mounted filter on car but it cant be doing much use because the pipe goes half into engine bay (presumably to fit to the heat pipe off manifold before i removed it) now iv got some of them fog lights that go in bottom corner grills, after taking a bulb out it leaves a nice hole. so my question is will the engine run better if i get a custom pipe run from end of filter and use the fog grill bits to make a direct air feed?

No offence, but on a 1.6 its not worth it would make such little differance if any

i wouldnt mind a idea for this too just too try and keep running temps down

I've got a closed gti type airbox with pipercross filter and cold air feed on my 1.6 but to be Honest it makes no difference

but surely it will help with engine maintenance not having hot air throw through it all the time (live in a town stop starting all time engine heats up quickly)

It's a 6n polo 1.4 engine cover, I just sanded off the 1.4 badge, removed the vw badge and resprayed it. It's not a straight fit tho.
