Money, Pounds and Euros
« on: 30 May 2012, 22:28 »
Im driving to italy in August. Im driving through a few countries and obviously going to be spending lots of euros!

At the moment you can get 1.2Euros to 1pound.

With all of the problems with Greece and Spain what do you think this is going to do the value of our money V Euro?

I havnt bought my spending money yet but in the next too months do you think there will be much change?

Hmmmmmm

Will i be a Euromillionaire by Augsust?

Don't buy currency, use pre paid card where there's no fees etc and for the love of god do not use PO, there are better places out there where you can get €1.25=£1

^^ another one for Pre paid card. Did some research on these and they seem to be the best way. Also to load up is free and ATM use is a fixed price of €1.50 whereas your debit card is alot higher. you also get much better exchange rates compared to alot of places.

Theres a moneysupermarket offer on a fairfx card and they are better when you a choose specific currency card.

fairfx card Pre paid MasterCard

dont do any of the above. your bank will have a card thats best for use abroad... get that. the rates are nearly always better abroad.

Got any other sweeping dumb-f*ck generalisations you want to tip in there?

The banks are hugely variable.  If Mikester happens to be with one of the 'bad' banks then they might have a recommendation, but it'll still be f*cking terrible.

The pre-paid card isn't a terrible idea, but the best idea is to head over to the specialist, independent sites and read up yourself, instead of asking on a car-based forum, which is full of car-based muppets.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

thats bullsh!t... the rates abroad are nearly always better than the 'no commission' crap you get over here. get over to a local place and purchase your euros from there using your card. might cost you £1.50 or so to change all your money over to euros but you will be much better off.

...or just listen to mr know-fcuk-all and post this same question elsewhere because he doesnt have an answer to your question... oh wait a minute... here it comes

Just exchange what you need when you're over there keep it simple if you are left with £100 of euros so be it just dont hold too many!
Banks & cards are designed to make you spend and TBF they will get commission anyway they can stick to a formula that works have pocket money. So go to Marks and spencer Forex then if you need to get more out do it over there?
No domestic country is going to just give them away!
Same question asl of me yesterday he does 20K a week transfers in his case I suggested he open a multicurency account in Lux and keep some afloat every two months so he is not exposed to commissions charges and pays direct with euros what ever the exchange rate is!
