help,, why my judering?

alot of the time when i change gear, mainly 2nd and 3rd im judering, not when i put my foot down but when im driving normally, does anyone have any ideas what it could be? also sometimes when im in the same gears i'll put my foot down and it takes a second to register then it'll shoot off.  i was thinking it could be the distributor or something like that, but i'm really not sure. another question, theres some sort of clip connection to the air filter on the left hand side of the bay, when the clip is in the car doesn't run as well, when it's out it runs much better but still with the above problems. there not constant, just every now and again. also i'm getting a rattle from under the car, i've been reading n thought it could be the heat sheild, its only when i pull off or first accelerate. cheers people, n sorry for the essay, your opinions n help would be much appreciated. cleaning her today so will post up some pics..

sounds like a service is in order, air filter, plugs, leads, dizzy arm and cap, oil etc.  Look in the maintenance section for common issues, and clean the throttle body (does no harm).

Bit of a punt here but your first problem could be engine mounts. Mine is similar and I have to be very careful with the throttle and clutch because when the engine does catch up it does so with a harsh snatch that doesn't feel very nice.

Try imagining your engine can rotate freely by 4" backwards and forwards and imagine what that would feel like when you press the throttle after decellerating.

If it is your mounts you will want them sorted ASAP as that extra movement will be bending exhaust bits and connections more than they are used to.

I will be doing my front mount first (about £20 for the bits) and moving back from there if that doesn't sort it. There are 3 in all.
