TUNING TIPS FOR A GTI 2.0 8V???????

just got a mk3 gti 8v, and i need some ideas on how to get more power out of it? cams? engine maintenance and all that stuff as im new to the golf?? cheers guys any inputs good input,

The 2.0l 8v is not really worth spending money on. You will put probably £1000 into it before it's even got half a chance of beating a 16v.

But if you insist, a high lift cam, a modified airbox with a panel filter and cold air intake, exhaust and a good service will get you 135ish hp. Mine had got 138hp with the above, but it had nothing on a 16v.

Best bet is to buy something faster.

Gutting the interior is probably the most effective modification on these for more speed.

Uprated leads will add nothing.
Nor will a 4 branch manifold.

A decent filter, modified airbox and re-map may give about 10 BHP at best...the rest will give nothing.
Same with a de-cat.

Or change the FD to a lower one, to make the best use of the power available.

I would not even spend the money getting it re mapped TBH.

The only engine mod on my old 8v was a K&N panel filter.

From previous experience on the rolling road days the power output on most 8v was usually between 110 - 125 BHP. The higher end of this was more to do with a well serviced engine.

Just enjoy the car for what it is, a good steady work horse/mule
