repacement ecu/clocks.. coding with vag com
« on: 28 May 2012, 23:06 »
hi everyone' i've just brought a replacement cluster for my 1.8t agu as my old one was playing up (flickering illumination) it also came with a new revo mapped ecu (apparently) with the same part number as mine & a key with transponder & ignition barrell with transponder reader & convenience module.. i fitted it all to the car today and im getting immobiliser active on the dash it starts for a couple of seconds then cuts out.. :undecided: im thinking it needs coding in with vag com.. i heard it all goes out of syncronisation if unplugged for a while? does anybody have vag com in the birmingham area who might be able to help me out please for a sum.. thanks paul.

The immobiliser chip doesn't go out of sync if the ecu and clocks are disconnected, the only thing you can have problems with is the remote part of the key.

If the ECU, clocks and key were out of the same car there should be no coding involved so it sounds like you have a mis match of components there or if you fitted the new ignition barrel the reader could be faulty :undecided:

You can swap your old ignition barrel back into the car then change the lock part over to match the new key to check that out:

If it isn't the reader then you will need to code the clocks to which ever ECU you use so you will need the SKC off the new ECU or the old one and the clocks then code in the clocks and keys

your link says' the immobiliser reading coil is secured to the lock cylinder and can not be changed individually?

The reader is the black part arround the ignition barrel at the key end, did you change the whole barrell or just put the reader and cylinder into your barrel?

What you should really have done would be to just swap the key blade from your old key to the new key (assuming you have flip style keys) so you wouldn't need to touch the ignition barrel
