Cheked, and replace with new and still has the occasional issue but I liberally apply the WD40 which keeps the issue minimal, not that theres any trouble in this weather, she is running sweet as anything now.

You can't beat these old dubs they just keep on going with a little bit of care each week.

live and wriggling boys....now are you going to throw me back or keep me and cook me...lol.

No my car doesn't like the rain, just like me it struggles to life reluctantly on very wet days.  And yes the rain makes me frizzy, it makes the car wet...lol

P.S.  I take the mickey out of myself far more than anyone else I know....I don't mind a laugh at my expense...as long as people are smiling

Is it a 6n polo, if so bin it!

I spent so much money I could of bought a second hand lambo gallardo for the money I spent on my 6n polo's, god are they awful!

It might be...I mean its a 1996 1.4 CL...whatever that equates to.

Actually been a pretty cheap run around.....My first proper car was a Polo (V-reg) followed by an RX-8 and the costs of running that bad boy could have bought me a really really nice GTI, then another polo and then a metro (dont ask) and now I am back in a polo again.

Nessa aint bad, cost me £100 and since I am a poor single mother (looks feeble and pathetic) it was either that or a pink nissan micra.....I'd choose the dub every time.

At least I know my way round the engine and can do a basic service on her.  I know they may be old, and crappy but I am attached now and hopefully I can one day afford a real car.....if they allow me hahaha.

Yeah mk4 polo 6n... Mechanically very simple but plenty of issues, I had your issue when it rains, rough idle and can even cut out on idle. In the end I sent it to its grave with a good kick. Yet everyday was exciting you never knew what would break next, like ohhh what a lovely day for work it is today, oh great reverse is now forward, FFS! Gearbox's are chocolate, I've replaced mine and had mine rebuilt as a nylon piece came off which wasn't labeled on the vw blueprint that they sent, so we replaced it with a cable tie, also replaced gearbox's for a friend... To be honest I don't want to discuss any 6n's I've owned as I think I could physically cry thinking how much both of them cost me

But regarding the idle issue on my first 6n I could never sort it, I know the TB is an issue for poor idle, but I basically replaced:
Alternator
Battery
HT Lead
Distributor
Sparks
Rotor
TB
etc....
Never could solve it, had a guy with a mk3 golf identical issue he could never solve it, also sent the car to the scrap and he was in charge of parts at volkspares    But I have heard this issue on a few polo 6n's from various meets, save your cash now and send it to the scrap  :lipsrsealed:

I can't it's just got a years MOT and other than an occasional wet thingy (which I think is now solved thanks to my dads mate having a play with the idle and fuel mix) it's running lovely.

I can't complain as this is my 3rd 6N and other than the usual replacements like brakes they've all been great, I love them.

Actually the first car was a VW corsa,  My parent leased it for 3 years as a new car in 2001 and in those 3 years I lost the gear box, pretty much every panel rusted, clutch went, the suspension fell apart while driving (a couple of weeks after the new clutch was put in...coincidence..I think not), it developed an ECU Fault they couldn't solve in 3 years and I broke my key and as Vauxhall lost the code and they couldn't find which one it was out of the millions of codes they tried to hit me with a whole new central locking and ignition system (which in the end they paid for as they admitted was their bad, I only had to pay for the key)

I would never EVER in a thousand years drive another vauxhall again, not even when I am desperate.

My RX-8 was similarly plagued with ECU and electrical faults which cost me thousands in the end and I couldn't sell it because it was so impractical no-one wanted it.

The metro...well need I say more.....lol.

I figure if the polo bites the dust then I guess I will be looking round for another cheap motor but if she can hold out another year I can actually save for something half decent...not a multi-coloured panel shed...haha.

How did he adjust the fuel and idle? On the computer? :undecided:

Didn't think you could adjust the parameters on these.

My nan has one and it's complete sh!te.

Headgasket, waterpumps, coils, various sensors, never wants to start, I can't find the issue, new gaskets everywhere, new lambda, temp sensor, coil, plugs leads, new throttle body and still takes an age to start sometimes. Others it will start fine and be spot on all day, the next takes an age and runs rough. Fuel pressure and compression is always good.  :undecided:

It's not so bad as it won't start and is undrivable, I don't think they notice tbh.

No gearbox issues but it's an auto.

Where all my moneys went.

Its a electronic injection from memory but I don't think you can adjust fuel via vagcom, I know you can adjust the idle revs unless you just up'd that via vagcom  :undecided:

Ah OK. How do you up the revs though? As said didn't think it was possible. Thought it learned it auto. If it is possible then great!
