in the mecanics defence there is no point just takeing them on a quite pootel round the village.
once you've cleaned everything it needs to be run for a good few miles to make sure all is well oil pressure issues won't show up on a cold engine or an engine thats not doing any work, i often use the m50 for test runs on rebuilds and new installs that i've done on my own, friends or cars at work. a lap of the m50 gives it a good nearly 50 mile run so if it's going to play up it'll do it then and it's penty of time for things to settel and leack if they are going to.
as for the engine suddenly quiting they do that sometimes after they have been oil starved, if a bearing has sustaned some damage due to oil starvation it will often continue to develop even once oil supply has been restored often failing at some point in the next 100 miles. only way to know for sure if there is damage is to remove the motor and completly it and inspect everything and then it back together. that costs ££££ to do for the fun of it may as well just start it up and drive it, if it stops it needed a rebuilding anyway and replacement 2nd hand enignes are cheeper.
turbos hate oil starvation pritty much garanteed to kill them
