Nearly fainted in the car garage
« on: 25 May 2012, 21:02 »
Went to the garage this morning as I had a blow in the exhaust and could not find it, garage had a look for me, nice chaps, told me yeah the backbox has gone mate, there is a whole in the side.

Thought to myself well that should not be bad, how much is it going to cost me, after searching through the car parts catalogue for 5 mins trying to find my car, then going off to get his calculator.

no probs sir, we do not have that part in but can get it here within the hour, suppplied and fitted, £159.00 wtf lol is this really the price of a back box

Have I not been in a car garage for that long that the prices are stupid. I used to go here a lot and always trusted, but really?

what do you guys says?

Yeah, sounds about expected price-wise...

If your insurance can hack it - then it's generally cheaper parts wise to buy second hand performance parts oddly enough!

Budget rear box plus fitting should be 100 quid tops for a mk3

I don't think a semi will give the same results

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

I got one supplied and fitted when I first got my car for £79.  Is that REALLY what they are going for now?

You need a friendly mechanic mate who will let you order stuff on his trade account.

But get that Magnex snapped up!

Avoid patternrear boxes with chrome tips, they cost a lot more than mild steel tips and rust within a month :lipsrsealed:
