MK2 door handles!
« on: 25 May 2012, 18:19 »
Got a quicky I have knackard door handle seals and the drivers side is quite loose.
Now the question is how do you change the barrels over so I can keep my locking key?
I've tried tightening them, but no avail I think actually the previous ownres might have put rear door handles on the front :lipsrsealed:

undo the screw and spring on the inner side of the barrel then the screw, spring and lever throw all pop off and the barrel slides out... Keep your key in the lock so the levers dont fall out (never had one do it but it's sods law!!)...

One of them doesn't have a barrel

Looks straight forward enough, I'll have to buy a set from GPC they seem to be good quality ones!

Could have been or just lazy to buy a new one or it was broken into and the barrel was butchered?
My central locking was broken from the start and it was a pain to get into the car from one lock, now they all pop up. Its not bad, but the fittings on these handles are poor wanted chrome ones, but think they look tacky now the cars looking more OEM.
You reckon I can get another barrel copied from the other side or even the key?

I assume you mean the chrome inserts - they are OEM....

Barrels can be copied BUT it's a PITA to do and you have to buy a kit from VW which I seem to remember includes like 3000 different sliders....

I guess a good lock smith could do it and I've heard that if you get a key in the barrel you can in fact file the protruding sliders flat BUT this will no doubt allow anyone with a spoon to open the door...

No I meant chrome handles, I know they have the inserts just thought way back when I saw some Porsche one that were chromed?
I'll look into just buying a blank barrel and then see who can cut the teeth to match the key
