Baffled :s Battery fuse box differences??
« on: 23 May 2012, 18:46 »
Evening all,

So my alternator went going back a few months now was an awful experiance driving down the M5 @ 70mph then all of a sudden the "Alternator" light flashed up..i thought it would be ok then all of a sudden the air bag light came on along with various others but thankfully i was near a service station and was able to pull into it sharpish.

Had the AA chap swap the alternator over their and then got home and had a nosey around and found that the far left fuse had blown and melted ontop of the battery fuse holder. I ordered a battery fuse holder off of ebay just gone to fit it and its completely different to the one fitted in my car. Mine has the metal bar that goes accross the terminals as aposed to the one that i got off the bay that has NO metal bar just the live feed wire straight to the battery.

Iv bodged it for the time being adding another terminal to the new battery fuse holder seems to be ok although it doesnt fit and click into place like my old one.

Any ideas? Cheers.

yeah AGU only has the bag over the battery so it has a different fuse panel on top

Shame as I threw one out not long ago after changing mine to the later box style

I might do this iv been looking at battery fuse boxes some have 3 terminals (that i have bought off ebay the later type it seems) and the old AGU needs 4 terminals. I think VW charge somthing like 50 quid for a new battery fuse box

all depends on what you have running off it, I think there is a separate cable for the heated seats. I think mine only has the three cables. One thing to watch out for is the cable lengths, I had to make up extension pieces as the fuse panel sits further forward on the later cars meaning the standard cables are too short.

Thanks for the replys gents. Ill post a pic of what my battery fuse box looked like before i disconnected it and put the "new" battery fuse box on. I don't think i have the heated seat option tho. Is it an MOT failure if the fuse box is not secure to the battery?
