Steering rack suddenly really creaky.

Mine was just age I think, it was leaking as well. And no idea what happens next, I changed mine pretty soon afterwards.

its a strange one really as i got my son to sit in the car wile engine running and keep turning steering all the way left and right wile i had my head in the engine bay and i could not hear it but then when i sat in the drivers seat i could really hear it and feel it. but then when i drove my car into my garage and did it i could hear it echoing inside the garage. just odd that i could not hear it with head down near it in engine bay 

well its gona be a wile till i can afford to change this so just hope it dont go on me wile driving

I reckon you could do it mate

Take off the ball joints and the track rod ends, engine mounts loosened, stand on the engine and lower it down.

OR just lower the engine down too. It's not too bad of a job IMO, on my 1.6 I dropped the subframe with the engine on it and didn't disconnnect anything at all!

i noticed you lowered your car recently,mine done the same thing when my coilovers were fitted still does it a year on

Slacking the top mounts, turn it a few times and see if it goes.

Ah that's exactly the same as mine. It's all in the passenger foot well where the sound is and I did use an impact gun to put mine together. So I should take off the top nut the slacken the nut on top of the bearing slitely?
