asda do 5l fully synthetic for 20 notes. im not sure on the a rating though

LOL

Quantum Platinum 10/40 semi synth

what has that got to do with anything ?

I assume your taking the p!ss suggesting Asda oil, or do you meal a decent brand thats sold in Asda!?

Quantum Platinum 10/40 semi synth is the recommended oil

dont tell me your someone thats a brand snob. most oil is made by leading manufacturers just rebottled.

its the specification that counts. not what make is on the bottle

I don't see why you'd bother though. You can go to TPS and get the oil your car came from the factory with for the same amount.

as you said most of it comes from the same refinery its just packaged into different bottles for retail as long as the spec is the same there should not be any problems where you buy it from

i ran 530 long life in my 1.8t to find i was using alot of oil and smoking, put it on 540 it got abit better, so went for 10.40 platinum semi and it doesnt use any, and you say cheap oil isnt poor? i have no clear proof but i all i can say is i ran my focus on cheap oil once it went black within no time then changed to proper stuff 5k later so it wasnt asif i the engine just got flushed through with the cheap stuff) ford oil  which was £17 on trade and it took a good few months to go black .. why bother geting cheap crap when you can get genuine at the same price or just a quid or so more. if oil doesnt matter why dont f1 use morrisons finest ?
MK4 golf 1.8 turbo agu :)
