Good Evening All.
Many thanks to Clipperjay and Thom89 for your help previously with my posts regarding heater problems and the heater matrix.
I have spent a couple of hours this weekend working on a donor 1.3 mk2 and stripped out the dash fascia, heater matrix, plastic matrix cover & heater slider control unit. It all went very well, the only really difficult bit was lifting the fascia out around the indicator and wiper stalks on the steering column. I now have a full set of spares for my actual project my mk2 GTI! the main reason for going to all this trouble is that my car has a broken heater control unit and matrix cover.
Whilst doing all of this work on the heating system of the GTI I am also doing another major job............................. The panel under my windscreen is seriously rusted around the windscreen wiper boss (passenger side). Is this a common problem? It is rusted to the point where i believe it is the source of water leaking into the foot-well, - any opinions on this? Around the edges of the windscreen the glass has also started to go an odd white colour so I am going to replace with a new windscreen.
With having to do this welding repair i am going to have to take the dash fascia off, hence practising on the donor car this weekend! I am happy with doing all of this apart from one thing................................ the GTI has a Fox guard Immobiliser, which uses the key fob placed over the flashing LED on the dash to enable ignition.
Question - Can this be "unplugged" to help me take the dash off? Once i have the dash off i will need to drive a short distance to my garage for welding.
Is messing about with the Fox guard a professional only job? If so any recommendations?
As always hoping that someone can help
Best Wishes
Jon
