My first film camera
« on: 20 May 2012, 18:48 »
Recently picked up a Canon 500N 35mm film SLR on ebay for £9 delivered. Didn't know if it was going to work but loaded up some film into it yesterday and took it out with the intention of using the whole roll and getting it developed to see if it works.

All went really smoothly and the camera worked like a dream, you do get the odd glare from passers by as they hear the film. Anyway I put it to use in Rochester with my 50mm f1.8 and came away with these:

Really pleased with the results and it's nice to have a limit of shots to take, so you have to think about the settings and composition before hitting the shutter. Must get out of the habit of checking for an image on the non existent LCD!

Nice work. The Yellow Bike is a good shot.
It really is quite limiting to have just 24 or 36 shots and only 1 ISO setting.

And yes I keep going to check the photo on a non-existent LCD too

I'm doing a wedding on Saturday and plan to take my film SLR with my 50mm f1.7 on it (along with my DSLR). Just have to decide on what sort of film, B&W, colour or slide (and then cross process).

Enjoy the film.

Thanks, I find the limit quite refreshing to be honest! I can only use the 50mm and 70-200 as I haven't got a EF fit wide lens :(
