Android: GPS/Sat Nav options?

Guys,

Am off to the Fatherland tomorrow via France ( :sick: ) & Belgium. Should have looked in to it sooner, but need a GPS system that doesn't rely on active data downloads otherwise I'm going to get financially buttfucked on data usage.

So I need a good on board sat nav application that can download all of europe maps I need on board the phone.

Does anyone know of something I could download? I've looked at Co-pilot but it seems to be taking a dive according to recent reviews on it. Plus at £30 odd quid, I don't want it to be wasted money.

P.S. Phone is a Sensation XL

My HTC Desire comes with something called Locations - uses Route 66 mapping.  I've never used it, but know that you can purchase maps for different countries for 30 days at a time for about £4, rather than paying for a whole year.

What I'm not sure about is if you can use it off line or not.

Google Maps IMO can't be seconded. Phone your provider, it cost me £5 for the month for me to go to Portugal (only went for a week) and use data. Google Maps got us absolutely everywhere with no hinderance when some TomTom with Europe maps was totally useless and kept changing it's mind.

How much will your mobile co. charge for activating data roaming over in Europe? Google Maps doesn't use that much data and it caches the map tiles, so you could in theory download a load of the maps tiles over wifi then most of your data will only be used for the navigation routing data.

Vodafone Passport.

Went in earlier in the week, and it's £2 per day for up to 25mb, then £1 per mb for first mb, and £5 for each mb after that.

Sygic was good for me the other day, you really need to store the maps on the phone though or it will keep trying to download them
