Starter motor fecked now
« on: 18 May 2012, 20:54 »
Less than a week after the clutch cable...

I think the starter clutch is gone - it would catch for about 1/2 a rev and then let go and spin. Not quite enough for it to fire up.

It is certainly broke now though - the stud for the main battery cable snapped clean off when I tried unscrewing it to take the motor out. I was going to have a look at the bendix and see if a bit of spray grease would keep me going till payday...

I finished the job of taking it out - in the pouring rain (got soaked) and now off the road again - 2nd time this week. Bugger...

Looks like I am off to Angmering on the train tomorrow - a breaker there has 3 on ebay right now. Good news is a £10.80 return train ticket and £30 for the starter. Not that I can afford it but it beats £120 from ECP with delivery next week sometime...

And the forecast is dry for tomorrow - bonus

Well, a combined journey of shank's pony and train got me a starter motor from a VW breakers in Angmering. I fitted it and it works - woo hoo! back on the road again

I will look up a german swedish now I have transport again - the one I used when I was in Plymouth was very good.
