From what i've read it can be done in, but is a lot easier out due to space etc... I am taking the dash out for other reasons, and thought that whilst it is out, it would make sense to remove a 24 year old part as a matter of precaution, as it would still entail taking half the dash out anyway to replace?

Problem like you said 24 years old, once you loose, break or forget clips screws etc sometimes the dash develops a squeek or rattle. If you are confident enough to remove a whole dash and put it back correctly then do it, but I would have thought the amount of times spent just taking a heater matrix out changing it would be enough for everyone DIYer?
One thing the gear stick selector make sure you remove all old grease and replace with nice grease you will be surprised at the amount of dust and dirt you find after 24 years!

I have a leak somewhere behind the dash on the LHS, and its not the fresh air intake as thats definately sealed! I cant see where it is coming in becasue of the soundproofing, and i cant remove the soundproofing becasue of the dash! Hence, the dash is coming out... just whilst i have the dash out, thought i might as well replace the matrix. Not really sure if it NEEDS replacing, but i do want to do the foam on the metal plates with the holes in properly etc... thought it would make sense to do it whilst it was in bits?! Dont necessarily have to take the whole airbox out though do i?

If the dash wasnt coming out anyway, i wouldnt bother to do the matrix/foam on plates i dont think...

Gear stick selector? Like the ball etc where the gear stick goes in to the car?

Well if there is still water coming in check the sunroof feeder plus the only other source is the bonnet latch cable stick some sealant into the rubber grommet that feeds it out of the bulk head.
Yes the balls and stick clean any grease and re grease them up.
The fresh air motor just twists off check for any calcuim powder lines its a good indication of water ingress!
I have to admit I still get the odd puddle in mine, but I think thats what drain holes on the floor plan are for  :lipsrsealed:
One more thing the windscreen seal it might be worth getting something flat and small behind it, as mold does build up and push seals out for water to go down.

I have so far:
Replace door membranes, sealed the bonnet release cale, sealed the choke cable, checked the rear screen wash, sealed the fresh air intake (also removed fan motor to check). I cant see what else it COULD be, but the hope is when i get the dash out, it will become obvious!

Also, dont have a sunroof!

Did you put the drain holes in the floor!?

Leaks whichever way i park - up or down! The most annoying thing is, we sat with a hosepipe, poured a lot of water and it was dry! Tried again, and it was very wet! Then we had a hell of a lot of rain, dry! Then a few days later, wet again! Its really annoying!

I will be checking for rust when its all out, though icant see any rust from the other side of the bulkhead/screen. I thought it might be the slightly rusty wiper hole, but poured a load of water through there - nothing!

The only thing i have seen on here is the inside of the wing being rusty, and letting water in like that. There is a small patch on the bit neasr the door hinges, that could have something to do with it, i will take a pic tomorrow and post it here

How did you get drain holes then??!
