Best thing to do is drill a 19mm or 20mm hole then thread it, buy a brass nut for the hole then when you map the ECU the mapper can just screw in the wide band sensor in the hole.
After he is done screw the boss nut back in place.
The Lambda probe gets unpluged at the bulkhead end it can stay in there

The other way is just buy a boss nut that welds into the hole as the boss nut housing is already threaded it might be a 18mm can't remember google it Boss nut lambda.

Thats a really good way of killing a lambda probe...... You need the heating element to work if leaving a lambda probe in the exhaust, otherwise the exhaust deposits kill it in double quick time or completely ruin any chances of it being accurate in future. If just swapping out an existing sensor to use a wideband sensor, remove the existing one altogether and, if not using the original sensor in future, just plug the hole left by the removed sensor with a cut down bolt of the correct size (M18 x 1.5, make sure and get the 1.5 pitch as its not the standard coarse thread, its a fine thread) that doesnt obstruct the exhaust flow, they are cheap enough. Bolts also tend to be easier to get out in future than sensors.

Really I've seen this done loads of times and no problems! I've seen people trying to take out a 20 year old probe and f**king it up trying to get it out though loads of times
We run dual sensors for one reason so we can monitor ourselves whats happening with in car wide band gauge.
If you are serious you would replace the lambda sensor after the mapping if it worried you that much!
TBH is the mapp is too rich it kills it anyways?

depends what managment your running

easy way is just buy an innovate there not that much money,   use the primary channel in wb mode to map it and connect the 2ndry channel in narrowband emulation to the ecu.

if it's been mapped on a rolling road  they proably just stuff a probe up it's arse and do it that way TBH
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

On the road mapp is where its at!
Fresh air at the front and monitoring how you change gears jobie done!
I'm not a fan of the static rollers can't reproduce real driving, much prefer rolling road
Sticking it up the arse depends if they have pre CAT in there as you know Danny the best results are pre CAT results?

best results pre  without  CAT

i allways thought they were garage ornaments,  that once a year  you take for a short drive before putting it back to bed.

Agreed which is why I never understood why garages still remapp customers cars with them still on  :lipsrsealed:
I smashed mine through so I didn't need to take it out once a year
