Clutch slipping

Hi all,

Well I'm not having the best of luck with my car... what with the water pump problems and minor issues that have been fixed under warranty. It's got 2900ish miles on the clock now, had it mapped when it hit 1000, and first noticed the clutch slipping today at approx ~2600 miles. I've done 350 miles today, the car's been fully loaded with lots of camping equipment, clothes, scuba diving equipment and so on so very heavy and it started slipping really bad. I've unloaded all of the crap and been out again and it seems better - not slipping as much, if at all, very paranoid about it now though but it was slipping very bad when fully loaded.

Gutted after so fewmiles but something I've always known could happen but hoped never would after a map.

Quite a few fault codes showing up at the mo so saved a copy, cleared them all and will see what shows up tomorrow after a drive. The car spent quite a bit of time on a dyno perfecting the map which probably hasn't helped.

Just how hard do you drive it!??

Not a direct comparison but my clutch has survived over 16000 miles (nearly 47k in total) and has had its fair share of abuse on Carbons dyno

To me your clutch shoulndt be slipping unless its a very aggressive map or you are loading the car up in too high a gear  or you have a mechanical issue with it...

Am on Revo stage 2 with 360 lb/ft of torque with no issues. Either your driving your car like you stole it or your just one unlucky guy! See it as an opportunity to stick in an uprated clutch

Is this the reason why you wanted to use someone else's car?

a leaking slave cylinder can make your clutch slip. could it be this?

Was suffering a noise from the clutch. Car went into the dealer on Wednesday and got the car back on Friday.
New clutch was fitted and was told a lot of clutches are being fitted to GTI's so maybe a problem there.
Service was great courtesy car provided while mine had been vacuumed and washed when I picked the GTI up.

Anyone know if the mk6 gearbox has a torque limit stamped on it like the mk5 had.

Mk6 manual suffers from dual mass flywheel issues as did the mk5 so I'm told.

I did about 30,000 miles on the stock clutch on my A3 2.0 TDI that was mapped and didn't have a single problem with the clutch. I use the power but I wouldn't say I drive it really hard. Here's a graph, I wouldn't say it's really aggressive



Many of the miles on my GTI (which was at 2950 today) are motorway/A roads. Some are town. Very little in traffic though....

Haha I know mate, makes me laugh tbh  I hate cars !!!  doesn't help that I'm 350 miles from home at the mo and the clutch is slipping even without a 2 tons of crap in the car now so gonna be an eventful week I think!

Ahhh that's interesting! Yeah may end up with an uprated clutch but going to see if I can take it to some local dealers here in Cornwall where I'm staying until Saturday/Sunday to see if they have any loan cars available etc and get them to look at it.

Interesting..... thanks.... any other symptoms or just clutch slip? I did notice the clutch pedal feels like it "sticks" very, very slightly sometimes, just before it engages. It's hard to describe but it's ever so slight. I noticed it 2 weeks ago (probably 700-800 miles ago) for the first time and it hasn't got any worse.

Glad you got it fixed! 

I'm gonna call the dealers around here as I'm about 350 miles away from home at the moment and see what they say. Hopefully one of them has a car available and I can take mine in and get them to have a look.
