Whats best to strip powder coating off rx2s

hi all

cant afford to pay to refurb them at the mo, so just wondered whats out there to strip the coating off so i can start refurbing my self.

any ideas greatly apreciated

Yeh I'm with you need to refurb my wheels which are powder coated but don't know the best way to strip erm down

had a look on wikipedia and it says 98% sulphuric acid and somet called methylene chloride will budge it, some on ebay funnily enough, lol.. and not too expensive

just wondered if anyone had any clever tricks like brake fluid or somet ?

Nope.
Chemical dip, sand blast or physically buff/grind/sand it off.
That's pretty much your options.

cant believe you actualy split the rims i tried mine and gave up after rounding one off and snapping the head off another

Nope.

i was hoping to not get that answer lol

gonna ask around find out what chemical they dip in, and see what it costs...

Clean them up first then paint stripper, sand paper start with 400 working your way up to 1000. then Dremel tool to polish the lip. Acid primer, Filler primer, Colour you want to spray it. last clear coat.

It take about an hour a alloy to clean them and about 2 days to pant and let it set in ETC ETC.

wasnt to bad, took about 1hr to 1hr 20 to do all four, and all i used you can see here,...
the trick is to apparently tap them to get em started undoing, but most i managed with steady pressure.. very suprised after reading soo many horror stories

Are you sure they are powder coated?
They look like they are painted to me from that pic.
