Flat blade wiper mod??
« on: 12 May 2012, 21:09 »
Did one to my Astra which was a doddle. Brother is interested in a conversion for his newly bought Golf.

I guess that it is possible as just about anything is. Question is how much work is involved making it happen.

Primarily we're talking about the windscreen, but replies on the rear wiper wont go amiss either. Do the MK5 just fit straight on? Does it need a lot of work or not so much?

I should point out that for the Astra, i'm well aware that you can buy flatblade wipers for the MK4 - however these have an offensive bulge in the centre of the wiper which 1) sticks out a mile & 2) keeps un-clipping. You can then do a conversion involving either 1) butchering wiper arms or 2) manipulating a sheet of aluminium in order for wiper arms from a MK5 Astra to fit the splines & therefore you can then use MK5 flat blade wipers.

So he's not wanting any offensive blocks on his wiper blades.

The mk5 rear wiper arm is a direct fit, looks much smarter I think. Simple mod, well worth it IMO.

The fronts...if you cannot live with the 'aftermarket' flat wipe blades then you will need to look at the anniversary wiper arms, again a direct fit...But can be quite expensive
