VW Configurator oddities

I've been playing on the VW Car Configurator...as you do!

Can anyone tell me why, if you want a sunroof with an Edition 35, you can't also have the 19" wheels?

Or why Park Assist isn't available on a Golf R?

The 19's and sunroof is something weight related from memory. Park assist for never been available on golf r can't remember the reason for that.

^^^ The park assist needs a different front bumper cover so I presume they never made one for the R.

Strange.

I do recall you have never been able to get Park Assist on the R...also seems strange considering the fuss VW made about Park Assist. 
They go to the trouble of making blacker headlights for the R...but not a bumper that can take the side sensors for Park Assist.

Yep, a GTI obviously weighs less than the R due to the lack of 4wd. Therefore the weight limitations placed upon each model will differ slightly.

I really miss the park assist! Wonderful toy for £60 (if you've taken sensors and the camera).
The bumper accommodates the sensors anyway so that's not an issue. Maybe steering ratio is different on R than GTI?

I wouldn't be surprised if all these oddities were only applied to UK spec. Low volume, high cost, not worth it...

Nope it's to do with weight. Each car is given a set tolerance either side of its official kerb weight which allows for the options as specified by each customer. Because the GTI model has a lower kerb weight, the tolerance levels are not sufficient to cover the increase in weight caused by the 19 inch wheels and the sunroof when combined. The R however, because it is heavier, can be purchased with these options as they do not increase the overall weight of the car by the same percentage of the original kerb weight.

I agree. Must be an odd VW marketing thing IMO as I can't think why?
