Sticking rear caliper
« on: 08 May 2012, 22:48 »
Yup..I got at least one of these buggers!

Can't be helping the MPG..anyway.

My uncle has had a go at working it and he said it was bloody stiff! Anyways, got it freed up but said the handbrake cable on the right side seems too tight and might not be helping matters? So firstly, how can he adjust this?

Secondly, other than working it to free it up, what else can he try?

Lastly, genuine or non-genuine if it comes down to a new one (is it a case of once they seize its only a matter of time before it happens again?)

cheers

Sliders being carriers? I'm guessing

So really, once it happens you may as well replace them to solve it completely? Can't  seem to find any rear right ones on that site for my car, they seem to be all for estates really

What car do you have, all mk4 calipers are the same apart from 4wd and yes fit a new one, well worth it in the end.

she's a mk4 1.9 gt tdi AJM.

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g4brakes.php seems to have various piston sizes, left and right options and for different disk setups.

Local car parts can get aftermarket (non gen) for £45 + vat

If yours is a hatch then it will be 38mm piston with the 232mm discs.
