Bearing like whine?

Have you checked for play in ur bearings? Also does it get slightly worse if you turn a certain way?

It doesn't seem to get any better/worse when turning left/right, it's only present between 2k-3k revs. The rear bearings have just been done, I will have a look at front ones thanks

Deffo bearing just work out if its front or back . Had the same issue on my mk2 16v about 2 months ago!

Or other gearbox related bearing. Suggest you check your gearbox oil level, could be too late now.

I jacked the car up and there seems to be no abnormal play in the front wheel bearings

its gearbox then, top oil up but i would say it may be too late now

My Jetta has the same sorta sound, checked the oil level in the gear box and was almost dry, new box going in next week

Too late now as in change gearbox? I guess if so it might be worth getting the oil changed and see how it runs for a while?

try oil 1st, depends on how dry it was, might quiten it down. may be 2nd hand box time though buddy

Out of interest, does it have the same whine in all of the gears, just one, a couple and is it purely engine speed related, doing it at the same revs in whatever gear it does it in? Also, can you repeat the whine with the clutch in or it not in gear?
