Thanks for all the feedback given, I really appreciate it. The idea of the silver base, black line detail and then candy over the top reminds me of something I saw on the UK Airbrush Forum recently. It looks great I agree however in this instance it wasn't what the client wanted. He was over the moon with the final piece. The tank is the heart of the bike aesthetically so the artwork is intentionally busy as elements of the artwork are going to link in with parts of the rest of the bike. I will grab some pictures once the entire bike has been built, hopefully it will give the tank some context. The idea around the artwork (and for that matter the entire bike) is based around a style called 'steam punk' which is a cross between present day engineering in a Victorian type style - I guess that's why it looks like a 'worn fairground ride' type style in places.
Also the amount of time spent on this piece is in the region of 60 hours - to airbrush exact mechanisms would of taken a lot longer to do, increasing the cost so it is sometimes a compromise (everyone is on a tight budget these days!).
Honestly thank you for the comments, when I begin my next job shortly (another bike) I will take these on board and hopefully it will improve me as an airbrush artist - your only as good as your last job is my motto!
PS: I will post up other pics however I don't want to drown out this thread so will post in a fresh one in a few weeks time. Gotta lower my ride and sort out my MK3 Gti golf first!
Cheers
James
Great work James, just not my cuppa tea... Today I went to the Hot Rod Nationals at Billing, and caught up with some blasts from the past, murals by the likes of Geoff Ridgway, and Ray Mumford, both were at the cutting edge artists, and both capable of the most precise work i've ever seen... are you familiar with there work?
I have some pics somewhere of stuff I used to do, but haven't got a clue where they are, I'll try and dig them out..
I still have all my Leaf books, and Badger kit, scalpels and frisk film.... sort of makes me want to have a go again, but cant be doing with the sore eyes and stiff necks anymore
Great work though, keep it up
Thom
