Hello all,  so basically story goes like this, been at my job for 16 months, 1st proper job out of uni, im an internal salesman for a company that sell agricultural building screens and doors.  I like my job but the guy who i work with that has the same title as me  does exactly the same work i cannot stand, he is not a salesman, has had 20 + jobs and loves to tell us all how his last one he got marched out the building by the ministry as they were investigating him and his wife who also worked there "but they couldnt prove anything ".    Ive tried to ignore his comments and general manner, but its all got too much ,  when i was asked to take over the warranty and quality control program we have that looks at replacement screens etc, i found that he had been literally giving away items to the two accounts that he looks after (irish) ,   this totalled £4000  in 4 months!     my boss gave him a verbal warning, he then carried on doing it and nothing has been done!

Since then i have found another job, that is better paid, better hours, company car and suites my career plan,    i handed in my notice 3 weeks ago and i have until this friday,   walking into work this morning first thing he says to me is,  bet you cant wait to get from here friday, to whch i replied "well yeh im looking forward to starting my new job"      his response was "i dont think youll be able to handle it personally, you dont know what youve got here"

With 4 days including today to go, my patience have reached breaking point!  its either going to be him out the office window,  his (bald, reseading) head down the toilet, or 4   6" nails in his tyres,  but they are continentals!  haha

Any way rant over guys!     anyone had any experience of this, or anything i can say to him?   thing is i do want to leave on good terms and not lower myself to his level!

  • Sam I am
I think you are going about it in the right way buddy, he is simply looking for a reaction. Simply shake your bosses hand come friday and say thank you for everything he has done for you blah blah blah and simply walk off with a big grin on your face.

You will always have pricks that you don't like that you have to work with. I have meet many. I just ignore them. The thing is most of the pricks like you  mention are mindless and normally a far inferior person to your self. What goes around comes around...he will get hit by a bus sooner or later compared to you hopefully enjoying a far better job.

Best of luck.

Don't worry, one of my old bosses was exactly the same!

I just popped in to see my other boss and as he was in the room told him how well I was doing now. While that business is now on the verge of closing.

Yup, pretty much similar situation at my last job. Only a lot worse.

My advice would be to let to go over your head, you won't have to put up with him much longer.

very well said.

He might be a right muppet but who knows who you will work with/for in the future and who might hear about how you dealt with a difficult person or situation. You have to keep your options open, You'll feel better in the end if you smile it off now. Always remember that if you keep smiling then he'll think there is something you know that he doesn't and that'll pi$$ him off more than any insult you can throw at him. haha.

Goodluck for the new job too
Wouldn't be fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?
