few questions for all
« on: 07 May 2012, 20:29 »
picked up my mk4 5door 2001 130tdi today tdi but not really tdi questions...

firstly the headlineing is cream/white colour can i get black from anywhere and is it a hard job to change?

also i want to remove the GOLF and TDI badge what is the best way to do this and remove the glue?

what would be a good brake upgrade?? ( would R32 disc and calipers be a straight fit)

ARS is it what does that mean/do

i have some coilovers which i want to fit soon as possible what else do i need other then a TT anti roll bar is it?

many thanks all

1) Spray or cover the headlining; tricky and time consuming as you have to remove a few other pieces before it will come out

2) Hairdryer followed by tar and glue remover to remove the residue

3) 312mm's or R32; both bolt straight on

4) Anti skid / slip regulation or similar; basically it cuts the power when you start wheel spinning

5) I'd replace the top mounts and rear bump stops whilst its all apart otherwise you'll be paying for labour twice should they need replacing after you've fitted the coilovers

Headlining - you're out of luck for a stock black one, the anniversary model had a black headliner but was only 3dr, you can use the sun visors and other roof fittings of course, but you will need to dye or re-trim the headlining to black.

Badges - fishing line and hairdryer

Brakes - fit 312 carriers and discs (exisiting calipers are same but as I say you definately need the 312 carriers, splash shields are your choice whether you change them to 312 type)
R32 brakes will fit course but you will need 17" alloys as minimum, all the info is here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=87778.0

ARS - ASR you mean? its the standard VW traction control.

Coilovers - can't help you there.

You should have 288mm up front  I can't speak from personal experience as I'm still on stock size brakes, but I'm sure others on here can comment further.

ASR yes leave on for normal driving, if the light on instrument cluster is on after you press button then ASR is off

Yes hairdryer will soften the glue on the adhesive pad, using fishing line will safely get between badge and paint then you can clean off residue foam/glue

edit: re headlining: see my post here... http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=229031.msg2108279#msg2108279
