1.8T rough automatic gear changes
« on: 05 May 2012, 00:56 »
Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help. I've got a 2001 1.8T that I've been having some problems with. It's recently had a basic service and all faults checked and cleared.

It's an automatic and the gear changes seem very late and clunky when they do happen. Any thoughts what this might be? From reading a few threads some suggest cleaning the MAF could help, but i can't risk needing a new one at the moment as i live on an island and it will be difficult to source.

Any helpful thoughts or advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks, Vicki

I would replace the oil plus clean the suction filter and see if that makes it any better

If you can't say when fluid was last changed and that the correct fluid was used I would definately get that changed, sooner rather than later. Same goes for all minor gearbox problems whether it be a manual or auto, its relatively inexpensive compared to cost of recon/replacment gearbox, people often neglect gearboxes might even be original fluid in yours still
