Re-mapping a GTI

I know i've probably just 'missed the boat' or I'm just being naive or something, but please can someone explain what exactly re-mapping is and how it could benefit me if I chose to have it done to my soon to arrive Ed35?

In simple terms - more power = Bigger grin 

It involves re-writing the program on you ECU and increases the engine parameters to give you more BHP and torque

If the ED35 engine is like the ED30 engine (not up to speed on the newer engine) then you could see increases of 60bhp +  taking the car upto approx 300bhp

I have my GTI mapped, I will only get it removed when I sell it, it makes the car feel proper quick. Mapping the ED35 will make it feel proper proper quick...

I know this is for an ED30, but it should give you an idea.

I like Superchips and have used them for years and never had an issues with them. There may well be tuners that offer bigger numbers, but Superchips have been doing this since the dawn of time.

not driven a 35 but on the GTI a remap is a must IMO

Really wakes the car up, sounds better, MPG not affected and just makes the car much more fun to drive

i would 100% recommend bluefin as you can remove it as and when you want, its smooth power like OEM (though revo gives bigger numbers i prefer the OEM drivability and smoothness bluefin gives), if you buy another car bluefin compatible you can reuse the handset on the new car for a small fee, the handset can be used to fully immobilise the car (if you go on holiday and are worried about it getting stolen etc) and it leaves no flash count on the ECU if you auto scan and erase the error codes.

i tried my car back on stock map and i was amazed how slow it felt!

for £400 its a bargain IMO.

on the ed 35 the gains would be even better with the larger turbo

0-60 tbh you're not going to see a huge improvement as it's easier to spin the wheels. At best I reckon a map would drop you to sub-6 seconds if you could get the power down.

In terms of outright measurable performance gains a simple remap took my own (standard not Ed. 35) GTI from a 14.5 1/4 mile to a 13.6 1/4 mile.

The benefit of the remap however is on the road. The car is so much stronger. I'd hesitate to use the word better as the standard GTI was really quite good but with a map the car pulls consistently and strongly in each gear. Standard the power delivery felt quite linear and flat throughout the gears, with a barely noticeable pull/push in the back as the car slotted into each new gear. Now whenever I flick up the gears I get a very noticeable push in the back.

It's also great fun to just leave it in 6th everywhere.

with the standard GTI at 5000rpm the power just tails off until the rev limiter

with a remap it keeps pulling past 6500rpm without the drop off

and ed35 probably won't tail off as its got the bigger turbo so will be pretty savage in the higher rpm's
