MK2 Golf 8v Engine rebuild - How much would this cost?

Hi,

As above really, how much would it cost to get a mk2 8v engine re-built and refreshed.

I have been looking at getting a mk2 and just seeing so many high mileage ones, and thinking are they going to be reliable enough. So out of interest how much would it all cost, if it was just things like replacing bearings, rebore something like that?

or is there anywhere that would do like a recon swap and fit, in the hampshire area?

any advice would be great!

No idea but the engines last a while with 200,000+ being reported. Other components such as suspension, bushes bearings etc. will go well before then.

That seems reasonable, would that be just the work on the engine or would that include labour for removing/refitting?

Sounds like the price on presentation of an engine stripped of ancilliaries to me.

Expect a larger bill (and better result) if you take it to a well-known engine builder.

Ideally yes, I would do it my self and save the money, but I have no garage, basic tools. Plus it will be my daily drive so...

Go see a proper engine builder's workplace:

aircon to keep moisture down.

zoned clean/dirty.

clean = clean as a whistle.

They WILL get better results than a home-build.
