Alright,

The missus just rang me to tell me she had a warning like pop up on the dash, she checked the manual and its the "alternator not charging" light.
The alterantor is only about 5 months old. What else could be the cause of this?
I've recently had a new stereo fitted with Ipod connectivity, could it be that leaving the ipod plugged in has caused this?
The car still starts no problem.

The car starts and runs ok, obviously ive turned radio, aircon and what not off, how long will i get away with running the car like this as i need it for work and the soonest i can get it into a garage would be friday.

Sounds like the alternator is not charging or you have a dead short somewhere

getting it looked at tomorrow, managed the 30mile drive to work, so boring without the radio :-)
Possible its a corroded earth, would this be a big job?

Just a long shot, but double check your battery is ok.  I had the same prob a while back (not a golf) and it turned out two cells on the battery where fooooked and the alternator couldnt get the charge in so was displaying poor readings.

Just a thought????
