Engine conversion

Newbie here,

Can any body help im thinking of doin a engine conversion on my gti 16v abf, iv done a few conversion befor on bmw e30s but never a golf,

im not sure whats the best road to go down with the mk3 golf but i want it pushing around the 200hp mark

Iv looked into puting a turbo on the abf engine but its to costly, so a nice doner car would do the trick i think as i can sell the parts that i dont need to make some money back  .

u can get the 16v to push around 200 bhp with work

new cams, cam pullies, remap that sort of thing?

I think i might go down the 1.8 turbo road but still what is the best engine to go for audi or vw?

easiest and arguably best conversion for a 16v would be imo a 1.8t. stick to one of the 150bhp versions and map it with a few mods will easily get 200bhp and most people would say good for up to 300 with a k03s or a bit more with a k04 or hybrid turbo (though obviously you would be into big money mods, if you want that power start with one of the more powerful engines, BAM etc).

the abf is not easy to get to 200hp without spending major money, the small things you talk of wont relase much at all from the abf, cheapest ive seen is a decat, smoothed airbox & panel filter & then chpped & that reached a respectable 165bhp, but thats as far as the abf will go without spending serious money....

the 1.8t is the most cost effective way to get to 200 hp in a mk3...... ideall you'd want an agu engine code as they are still throttle cable some of the later 1.8t are flybywire and as for engine, audi, vw, seat. they are the same engines...

If you want 200bhp then fit a 1.8t, to get that much power from an ABF will cost £££££££ much more than the 1.8t swap will cost.
