EM light on, scanned codes bad?
« on: 29 April 2012, 23:52 »
Hey guys, my Em light came on and I used my neighbours VCDS lite and found the following error codes..

17704
 P1296
 Cooling system malfunction
Doing some googling seems to suggest that this might be something as simple as a faulty coolant temp sensor. I have noticed that from time to time the Temp needle in the cab will show 90 or go abit below 90 while driving, does the sensor control that?

17705
 P1297
Connection turbocharger - throttle valve pressure hose
Again, googling seems to suggest this could be the DV, Split in a hose or a dirty Throttle body???

16395
 P0020
-A- Camshaft Pos. Actuator Circ. Bank 2 Malfunction
Google seems to suggest that this could be something to do with something sticking slightly or timing being slighty out by even as low as 2%? which would make sence due to timing belt recently being done.

Also from time to time, my car seems abit jurky but then pick backup and drive as normal.

Are these serious faults?

I would also like to mention that the car has recently had a new cambelt and waterpump done.

If the temp is dropping below 90 when driving, and back up when stopped in traffic, I'd say your thermostat is shot. I had the same fault but I replaced both just to be sure. The temp sensor isnt that expensive at all, I cant remember the price of the thermostat but it's not overly costly either.

Do you have an after market DV? Some after market DVs can be cleaned, I'd try that, and also clean the TB. Electronic ones are a piece of cake to clean, cable TBs need to be aligned with VAGcom after cleaning. After that it could be an N249 valve or possibly a leak.

I'd say that's your timing that's out.

Try cleaning your Throttle Body and see if that clears up. I was having the same problem with mine a while back. It felt like a different car after I cleaned the TB.

Nope fully standard, i'll take the TB off and give it a good clean as well as check every pipe for splits etc would my AUM engine have cable or electronic TB?

I'd say that's your timing that's out.

I plan to get it down to my local trusty garge for a full timing check with the lazer etc soon as my log book arrives so I can tax her :(

AUM has an electronic TB so you wont need to reset it with VAGcom.
