Going to drastic lengths just to make a visible deterrent, as if you'd shoot an aircraft down over heavily populated land in a bid to protect people

Heavens forbid a foreign jets makes it as far as London and is armed to the teeth why wouldn't they shot it down if it could do more damage still flying? Plus I feel modern SAM missiles have a greater range than just line of sight.

Yeah, long distance search radar and controllers constantly monitor the skies over and towards us, so no one would actually get anywhere near us, it's more of a visible deterrent, but I feel it's just a little too much.

You've got to watch out for those suicide pole vaulters and long jumpers !

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

As history has already clearly demonstrated, what makes you think the threat will come from long distance?  There are several airports/airfields within 10 minutes flying time from the Olympic site.

Nothing makes me think 'the' threat will come from long distance, what makes you think those are my thoughts?

Had jets flying around Wycombe last night, I was out having a fag with my housemate as they started flying around.
I couldn't see them but the noise was so loud, nothing like the sound of the jets I used to see in the Welsh valleys when on holiday (and yes, I'm aware that High Wycombe is not the Welsh valleys, so there will be a difference in sound  )
