thinkin of re-engiening my mk3...
« on: 05 June 2005, 15:41 »
Right, im runnin out of patience with my tiny engine in my m3 coz i wana go faster!

Been thinkin of a 1.8t lump to go in there, either that or just a gti engine of some sort.

At the moment i have a 1.4ryder with a 4speed box-bought it with a major transplant in mind for the future as i mk only 19 at the mo-but im bored and need to start saving i think.

I know il need the engine, gear box and some bigger breaks.  Really just want to know how much il have to save. Also, what i should do insurance wise!?!

Thanks all, golfpro.

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

don't. sell it and buy a gti. It's far more trouble and expense than it's worth.  I doubt you'll get insured at your age too. Don't mean to piss on your fire but thems the facts.

naa sell it and buy a mk2 gti

you can get insured on anything. if you can afford to pay for insurance and then be able to run it then go for it.

It will be far easier and far cheaper to buy a GTi, rather than make a 1.4 into a GTi, as you will need to replace most of the wiring, brakes, suspension, wheels, etc etc.

Insurance will also be a problem, as you are upgrading the engine, I owned a 1968 beetle which has a 1600 engine, instead of the 1500cc that it came out of the factory with, and most insurance firms would not insure the car without a full engineers report being carried out.  And that was only 100cc!

So my advice is to sell the 1.4 and get a 8 or 16v MK3 GTi, and for me the difference in the insurance is very little, but I am 28 lol

Might run my mk3 into the ground and get a gti when it finally decides to give up then. Would probably stick with the mk3 tho as Iv got some quality parts on mine that could be transfered in no time and would probably save a penny or two, lights, wheels etc.

gues that for now its 131k and counting!

the gti dream lives on...

Fraid so. I got banned when i was 18 so insurance stung me for years. Have you thought about something smaller/lighter. A polo 1.3 gt coupe maybe? Low insurance and with a bit of (undeclared) tinkering , pretty nippy.  Have a look on here

If you decide to tune your current car, these folks will probably be pretty knowledgable about the 1.4 lump.
