DIY boost gauge in air vent
« on: 28 April 2012, 18:07 »
Thought I'd try and butcher my own boost gauge holder out of my driver air vent. I had it sitting in my air vent with no directional thingy in for a while and it was bugging me, I had also been meaning to sort out something more permanent. I thought I'd give it a go to see if it looks any good!

Picture of my progress...

I marked up the directional thing (for want for a better word) with a sharpie and then then hacked/chopped/cut with different tools in my box. It obviously isn't the best fitting and I will probably give it another go but use a ban saw perhaps. The trouble is the silver bezzle bit on the outside of the boost gauge doesn't fit inside the vent easily, so would have to carve bits of that...until I get one spare I won't be trying this!

You can buy the vent with the hole already in it, as I'm sure you aware of. Think I last saw one for £70ish on gaybay, WTF!?

Why not get a cheap pod: http://rspec.co.uk/gauge-pods-accessories/gauge-cups/52mm-single-gauge-dash-swivel-cup-black-plastic-finish

Cut is about so you only have the holder then bond it in but not flush, that would finish it off.

I do hope this makes sense

I've also done this after seeing it in my mates gti, didn't want a pillar pod so thought this would look tidier and I love it, going to put the oil temp in one of the centre vents next :D
