Hello!
« on: 25 April 2012, 23:51 »
Hi all, bought a Mk4 GTi, 1.8 20v turbo today. Been remapped up to around 180bhp. It's only my second car, and changing from my 14 year old Escort to this was like flying the USS Enterprise. I'm somewhat in love with it at the moment.

Was just wondering, with a great service history, cambelt that has only done 4k, and new brakes, what do I need to look out for on these cars?
I thought Volkswagens were supposed to be reliable?

Welcome

Will do, as soon as I give it a clean. Not looking it's best at the moment. Going to try my luck against the weather tonight and get it looking good. Volkswagens are bloody well built though!

Try this

Make sure the waterpump was done when the cambelt was done as these are a very common failure.

Thanks! Water pump and cambelt are both new. Tracking was wonky, had that fixed today. Overall looks like I've gotten a damn good car. The blue and red interior lights are nice.

I realise to all the veterens of the forum i'm going on about some pretty boring, standard stuff - but my last car was a ford escort, so you can understand!
